BIO
My work is a balance of representational and abstract work. One type of work freshens me for the other. I currently use the media of watercolor, collage, and stamping. Many pieces begin with the spontaneous blending of color puddles, followed by strips of paper glued down in layers. I may hand-carve a stamp that supports the theme, and press its image down where it helps develop the composition. I enjoy the opacity of stamped ink and paper contrasted against the transparency of watercolors.
Since childhood, I’ve been drawn toward the making of art. I graduated from Wisconsin State University with a degree in English (I’m a word and pictures person.). My main career has been in graphic design, with several “mini careers” along the way in fine art. I’m now concentrating on fine art. And while the activity of expressing my ideas through art completely engages me,
what I love equally is the way it connects me with people. It lifts my spirits to watch someone first notice the work, then step closer for a better look, then become totally engaged with it. It’s a conversation that begins alone, but isn’t actualized until the viewer responds to it.
I have two grown sons and two granddaughters. I am a native Texan, and call Fort Worth my home. With world class museums and a vibrant art community, this is a stimulating place to be an artist.
